Is it Time for a Turn-On Word for the Turn-Off Term of Today's: "Education"?

Why do so many young learners today in K12 prefer challenging online games and interesting mobile learning apps they find on the Apple Store or Minecraft to the usual fare of teacher-led, classroom learning?

Maybe we need a new word to describe more of the content and delivery of what K12 learning SHOULD be.

How about the word, "Edu-tainment ™"? It's a coined term used a few years back by the software folks who brought you "Oregon Trail," the most played learning game in history. Edu-tainment reflects the fact that if learning doesn't contain some fun and engagement, too many kids don't care about learning at all.

So, what do YOU think? If "Edu-tainment" is a good choice, click "Like" on our Facebook page. If you have a better word, enter it in the "Comments" section.  You can also indicate your preference in the Blog Comments below.

The right word means a lot to our young  learners.

  1. I'll vote for "Edu-tainment," unless something better comes along!
